Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a doctor's referral to start physical therapy?

No. North Carolina is a direct-access state, which means you can come straight to us without a referral for up to 30 days. If you have commercial insurance, your plan most likely covers PT without a referral too. Medicare and a few others require one — if that's your situation, just let us know and we'll help you get it sorted before your first visit.

How long are sessions?

Your initial evaluation is 60 minutes, fully dedicated to you. Follow-up sessions typically run 45–60 minutes — one-on-one with your therapist the entire time. No aides, no techs, no rushing.

How many visits will I need?

It varies, but most patients see meaningful improvement within 4–6 visits and complete treatment within 6–12 visits over 4–8 weeks. Some conditions resolve faster, others take longer. We give you a realistic estimate at your evaluation — and we adjust as we go.

Will it hurt?

Not in the way you might be afraid of. Some hands-on techniques can be briefly uncomfortable (think "good sore"), and some exercises will challenge you. But pain isn't part of the treatment plan — if something hurts in a bad way, we change it. Your comfort and trust matter more than any single technique.

Will my insurance cover this?

We're in-network with most major commercial carriers in NC, including [BCBS NC, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Humana, Medicare — to be confirmed]. We also offer competitive cash-pay rates for patients without insurance, with high-deductible plans, or who simply want the flexibility. Call us with your insurance info and we'll verify your coverage before your first visit.

What should I wear?

Comfortable, movement-friendly clothing. If we're working on your knee, wear shorts or pants you can roll up. If it's your shoulder, a tank top or t-shirt works well. Sneakers, not flip-flops.

Do I need an X-ray or MRI first?

Usually not. As a board-certified specialist, your therapist is trained to identify when imaging is genuinely necessary — and most of the time, it isn't. If we think you need it during the evaluation, we'll help you get it.

What if physical therapy isn't right for my condition?

We'll tell you. If your symptoms suggest something outside the scope of PT — and that's rare — we'll refer you to the appropriate specialist. Your time and money matter to us more than keeping you on our schedule.
